“We are one big family and all enjoy what we do together”
The Homework Club meets every Tuesday after school in IT3. We usually expand into the adjacent room (IT2) and sometimes into a classroom (C14) if student numbers dictate. Some Year 12 students work out of their study room and staff go across to assist them as required.
Attendance is completely voluntary and students can arrive and leave as they wish but we do ask that students enter their names into a visitor book. Sessions start at 3.20 and we like to finish at 5.00.
The Club caters for the learning needs of all student levels in most subjects. The strongest focus tends to be in mathematics but students do work on assignments, catch up with class-work and finalise formal homework tasks in a wide range of subjects across all year levels. The skill base within the volunteer staff covers most disciplines.
The atmosphere within the Club is busy. There is no set working mode – students can learn from each other or from a staff member. Group work is common and often, mini lessons are delivered by staff members to assist, inspire and challenge students. One proviso is that students come with work – we do not encourage the playing of games unless part of the curriculum (such as a Mathletics Program or an IT assignment).
The current core volunteers are Mr Lony Hem, Mr Tim Carroll, Ms Sara Downs, Mr Wilfred Lee and Mr Brian Beasley. Learning Support Staff often visit to see if any EAL students need assistance in understanding their tasks.
Parents and guardians are welcome to visit and should they wish, even help out.
