In the Community

South Oakleigh College prides itself on our connections to our community. We strive to ensure that our students value and nurture the partnerships we have with our community as we build a culture of connection. We have students leading the way, playing key roles at community events.

College Council

The School Council is formed according to the guidelines set down by the Department of Education and Training (DET). Its membership is a locally agreed model based upon these guidelines. The School Council sets policy directions, but the day-to-day operation of the school is the responsibility of the Principal.

At the beginning of each school year, a notice of School Council Elections and Call for Nominations is published on the school website and through Compass. Our College Council comprises students, staff, parents and community members and meets every month. The Finance Committee and Facilities Committee also meet before every council meeting.

Notice of School Council Election & Call for Nominations 2024

An Election is to be conducted for members of the school council of South Oakleigh College.

All government schools in Victoria have a school council. They have legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the broad direction of a school, in accordance with Ministerial Order 1280 Constitution of Government School Councils, and the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. In doing this, a school council may directly influence the quality of education for students.

Fundraising & Philanthropy

As part of our work in the community, South Oakleigh College is proud to raise money for a number of organisations. Our annual Walkathon held at the end of Term 1 every year raises money for the Monash Children’s Hospital Clayton. Over the past two years our school has raised over $30,000 for the education department of the hospital.

Our Student Representative Council holds numerous fundraisers throughout the year including The Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea, Wellfest Week and an Easter Egg Hunt with all money raised donated to charity.
