Understanding the Media

At South Oakleigh College we’re very proud of our Media and Communication Centre, which has been touted as the most advanced secondary media facility in the state.

The centre has been purpose-built to accommodate our large Television Studio environment – including the Studio Floor (performance/presentation space), Control Room, Sound Booth, Photography Studio and Green Room.

These spaces are complimented by an upstairs space which overlooks the Studio Floor and includes seating for our studio audiences and six state-of-the-art Edit Suites.

The Media & Communication Centre is equipped with the latest professional equipment, including the same cameras, vision-switching, tele-prompting and sound equipment used by national television stations.

Our students gain exposure to a variety of practicing industry professionals on a regular basis, including our own staff who have screened at several film festivals and won awards.

As Channel Nine News Anchor Peter Hitchener said: “It’s the best television and media facility I’ve ever seen in a secondary school.”
